To all an sundry-- Esp. Susan Kline who I know has much experience with the old fellers: How do you know (for sure) what pitch the piano was designed to be at--? (ugh what a sentence!) When I restring the great old ones, I tediously measure the strings several times until I am absolutely sure I have the right gauge. I do a dance when I find under all the dust that the original scale is handwritten among the pins. Most of the pianos I decide to restring were born between 1880 and 1910. Usually Ivers & Pond, Haines Bros., Wing, Heintzman, that calibre. Clair -- Clair's Piano Service http://www.vt2000.com/cps
