New Haven Moving Equipment has great dollies for about $60.  Padded grand 
skids and not too expensive either.
It's not worth the time to make them yourself once you buy the good casters 
and cut the wood. Pads as well,
moving quilts protect the piano better than bed blankets and the impression 
you leave with people is important.

Having neat professional equipment will separate you from the fly-by night 
guys.
