Wire Size Differences

Gordon it does measure half sizes.   For instance a size 14 1/2 will slip 
right through the 15 slot but not go into the 14 slot unless forced and so 
forth. If you feel more confident with the mic then by all means use it..just 
don't disregard the value of your string gauge.
 As for 'enlongation and wire size changes over the years'...I have never 
noticed this to be the case in any materially significant manner.
