Lighter or Heavier ?

Overall length of the key is important in how the action feels. So the mini
Kawai will never feel like the Boes Imperial no matter how much you employ
the Stanwood method between the two.

You have the potential to duplicate action touchweight characteristics
accurately and predictably by using Stanwood's methods/concepts. This is one
of the benefits of employing Stanwood's ideas. I should think one could take
two Bechstein's of the same model, do the component touchweight balancing in
the same way, correct whatever geometry needed correcting, and have two
actions that are identical. I suspect that you will never be able to apply
the component touchweight techniques to a Bosendorfer concert grand and a 5'
2" Kawaii micro-grand, and expect them to feel exactly the same - although,
you could probably come pretty close - close enough that a pianist who is
happy with the Kawaii could feel comfortable with the Bozy.

Hi Terry.

Yes you can. But do you mean that two pianos prepared via matching Stanwood
approach will have exactly the same touch feel ?

Stéphane.

| Can I assume these are two pianos that have not had their actions matched
via Stanwood approach?

| Hi Richard, List.
|
| Again interesting topic.
| May I add a question?
| Why do two pianos with same UW/DW, friction level and inertia, leverage
etc. NEVER have the same touch feel ?
| (Or am I totally wrong presuming this ?)

| | Ed and David... thanks you two for replying to my question... I wonder
if you
| | might answer one clarification for me...? Would you go so far as to say
that
| | there is no direct relationship between DW/UW measurements and the
"feel" or
| | "touch" of the action ?
