Adjusting dampers to tray

Hi Matt.
Since the dampers are out, change the tray lift felt, the
new felt will not have indentations, so it gets you in the ball park
quickly. Remember to NOT glue down the forward edge of the felt, so you
have room to glue in some paper or thin card shims. Roll the end of the
damper wire on a block of hard maple as you tap it with a small
hammer. This will help to stop the screw from wanting to go back into it's
old position.
Bill Spurlock sells a great Jig for timing, it is based on the design
that I had in the Journal artical's, understanding Grand Dampers.
There is no real short cut, other than shimming the rail to get perfect
pedal lift timing. But starting with level felt makes it so much easier.
Hope this helps.
Regards Roger
