quick advice on damperlever replacement

I have never done this before. But it would seem that the wires are forced in 
with a machine, and probably quite tight. You might wind up bending the wires 
when you try to put them in, (over and above the bends in there already). Not 
only that, even though most of the plastic levers will probably disintegrate, 
some of them are going to be stubborn causing more headaches.  

Again, I think you're better off bending wires. Too bad you had a bad 
experience before, but don't let that keep you from doing a better job this 
time. Who knows, you'll get so good, the next thing you know you're teaching 
a class on the subject, and advertising in the Journal to take on outside 
work. :)
