I tried the water base with bronzing powder also. Seems to be no way to avoid oxidation of the powder. I now use a very simple system - the piano gold lacquer that is available in a spray can from Pianotek. It applies extremely easy, has a great color, and levels perfectly. I give it a clear coat of high-gloss lacquer to finish up. One plate does not stink up the shop too much with a little ventilation.
