I think the reason for the failure rate of tightbond over old hide as you say Joe is this, when tightbond is applied over old hide glue the tightbond will not stick to the old hide. The whole thing will however turn to a mess and then the tightbond and the hide glue scrapes off easily in one gooie convoluted mix. WHich is a good way to get old hide glue to scrape off easily.
