Nipping off a wood screw can oft-times work just fine. Just not the same as
a threaded machinist screw thread. On bigger one's of that type it is
possible to trim them and "chase the thread and put a slight bevel on the
tip. But, on those tiny little puppies, I wouldn't do it. Too much like a
make work project, to me.
As for doing all of the rails, yes.
