Dithering Hammers

   Dithering or bobbling hammers can have several causes.  Here are my 
suggestions:
Be sure there is no excess lost motion; decrease the checking distance to 
1/2"; be sure you have enough key dip.
   Maybe the hammer flanges are too loose -- if you have more than seven 
swings, use a larger pin.
If the problem is throughout the action, reduce the hammer blow distance 
and regulate.
   I would pursue these options before setting "let-off" or "set-off" to 
more than 1/8".
