The story I choose to believe is that many years ago a fire destroyed a
lakeside cabin here in central Illinois, as well as the piano inside. I
suppose that while the people were cleaning up the mess someone leaned the
plate of the piano against a tree, and over a long period of time, the tree
began growing around it. But there are rumors of pianos disappearing
overnight in some wooded areas, always with a nearby tree having suddenly
developed a large bulge in its trunk.
