There is a piano tuner in Holland, by the name of Hans Troost. He has been doing a lot of research on piano tuners and hearing. Hans has been a tuner, restorer of pianos and violins, builds Paul Poletti's fortepianos, and has performed concerts in the schools to introduce children to music. A couple of years ago Hans was being driven away from his work by constant tinnitus and hyperacusis (hypersensitivity to loud sounds). His research on piano tuners and their hearing is in the process of being put down into written form (as is mine). Hans wrote me a week or so ago and asked for an "introduction to the PTG". I explained to him that the pianotech list is open to all and gave him the directions to subscribe. Hopefully we will hear from him soon.
