Half Day Tuning Seminar

A half day Tuning Seminar is being offered in the South Bay area of Los
Angeles on Sunday, December 28, 2003 (location and starting time to be
announced,
alternative date will be Friday, December 26) for PTG Associates or Non-PTG
Members who would like to gain the skills necessary to pass the Mandatory
Aural
Portion of the PTG RPT Tuning Exam.

To pass the Exam, applicants are required to tune the area of the piano from
C3 to B4 (C5 will be included to round out this exercise) entirely by ear.
This will be a HANDS ON exercise, so bring your own tuning hammer plus a
pencil
with eraser and a small, pocket calculator.

You will learn a newly developed sequence for tuning Equal Temperament (ET)
which uses the exacting Equal Beating (EB) techniques which are used to tune
Historical Temperaments (HT) and other alternative temperaments aurally with
the
same precision as can be expected from today's Electronic Tuning Devices
(ETD). This sequence is due to be published in the PTG Journal soon
(January or
February, 2004) but advanced copies are available by request by e-mail:
Billbrpt@aol.com.

You will learn exactly how to tune each note in the C3-C5 range in a pattern
which you will understand thoroughly and leave the seminar with the idea
firmly in mind. You will also learn how the Exam is measured and scored and
you
will have a written record of the event. The participants themselves will
do
the tuning, not the instructor. For all those who previously thought they
did
not have this capability, this is the seminar for you, a life changing
milestone in your career!

Hopefully, this seminar will be repeated in the future at Chapter meetings,
other Tuning Seminars, PTG Regional Seminars and the PTG Annual Convention.
It
will be an exercise which any RPT will be able to give to any group of
tuning
students.

At this time, there is a location and a few interested people. We will
however, be looking for more people and a larger space with a grand piano
suitable
for taking the Tuning Exam. A private home, church, school or piano shop or
dealership will all suit the occasion.
