Yes, Dale I've been finding that the new S&S parts seem to produce
better results than either the Renner or Tokiwa stuff, but I do like the
overall quality of Renners more, and they're also considerably cheaper.
I'm glad to know about the Abel parts for Masons and will be sure to add
them to my bag o' tricks. On my B I could easily have forgone the helper
springs, but I wanted to give them a try on my own piano before
experimenting with someone else's

like the parts, and love the eveness of touchweight that I was able to
get on both pianos with the adjustable helper springs. One piano - a
Mason AA with Renner wips - went from the mid 60's (grams) to the upper
40's in the middle after the switch over, and I removed 6 lbs. of lead
from the keys. The customer was beginning to have muscular problems that
limited her practice time but can now play for hours pain-free. The
other set went on my own Steinway, and even without the springs I got
better touchweight & friction numbers than with the Renner parts. I do
have problems with checking on my piano that disappear when I swap out
samples with Renner wips, though. Although they appear identical in the
important aspects, I suspect that the Tokiwas are shortening the action
spread just slightly, but I haven't checked it yet. Can someone remind
me of what the spec is for S&S action spread?

I'm not a big fan of helper springs & usually find other ways to
handle the weight problems. I have found that one tool to have are the
Abel parts for Mason/wessell, nickel & gross actions that are a perfect
fit for many & they are the only ones who make an 18 mm nuckel
placement. These parts will work well on those that originally had this
configuration & on some others depending on key leverage & action
spread. Until now no other supplier has provided this dimension of part.
Also I like the fact that the center pin location is not moved out as
per the Renner parts on there Steinway shanks.
The Tokiwa parts are a good fit except that the overall height is
taller than original factory wippens which requires techs to lower the
capstan perhaps further than the magic line calls for which, can also
increase touch weight. On Steinways I gave up & just use the factory
wippens as they fit every piano they ever made really well. The Renoir
whips tend to be too short & jack placement is really ideal for
primarily there 17 mm knuckle execution. Just MHO based on trial &
error.
