Yes, violin makers use maple for the backs and sides
because ( fools that they must be---- according to
some here ) they actually believe in the "Circle of
Sound" ( hahaha ) and want the sides and back to
recirculate vibration back to the resonant spruce of 
the top.
     They really should read this list.
     Might learn a  thing or two!
