Almost OT - Professional uses of spit

OK, friends, you know I'm looking for some interesting reading material when I
ask this question. What other "professional uses of spit" are out there?! In
our super-hygienic culture I assumed it's unprofessional to use spit for
*anything,* so it's actually sort of refreshing to see it in print.

It brings back memories of when I was a little boy. On Sunday mornings my mom,
who had seven kids, would check our faces in the car on the way to church. If
there were obvious smudges, out came her hanky with a little spit and a little
rubbing -- problem solved. I hated it! But that was back in the days of weekly
baths in the galvanized tub behind the space heater. Same water for three or
four of us, one after the other, of course. Ah, those were the days....

Regards,
Clyde
