Chances are that if the wires were making noise in the guide rail bushings then they are slightly oxidized and need polishing to further reduce noise and wear, and more importantly to reduce friction to dampen better. The front trichords can be trimmed in the piano with a little care. A pair of pliers squeezing the wires behind the damper will pinch the felt and a razor blade can trim the felt flush to the bottom of the wire (pinching is not necessary but will insure that the felts do not tear). Trichords on the rear will need to have the damper removed. But it is the trichord on the front which makes the most noise especially if they go to the upper reaches of the 4th octave. If possible, I like to remove the damper. This way I can also pinch the tips of the trichord with round-nosed pliers to further reduce drag and seat better. When it comes to grand dampers, I'm no whoosh.
