Oh, god!!! I looked up lutefisk through a google search. So if I understand correctly, this is basically a swollen, gray glob of hydrolized protein that was once a fish about 1/5 the size. Do I have that right? Please tell me that the glob is neutralized with hydrochloric acid prior to consumption! Or perhaps it is meant to be its own antacid. Actually a very elegant solution! ;-) Peace, Sarah, who likes other strange fish dishes like ceviche, blackened catfish, and eel ----- Original Message ----- From: "John Musselwhite" <john@musselwhite.com> To: "Pianotech" <pianotech@ptg.org> Sent: Tuesday, December 30, 2003 12:07 PM Subject: Re: What is lye > At 10:09 AM 12/30/2003 -0500, Sarah wrote: > > >Lye is the principal ingredient in drain cleaner. > > It's also the principal ingredient (after codfish) in lutefisk, a Norwegian > "delicacy" I suffered through for years until we complained enough that Mom > stopped making it.
