assist springs ?

Come to think of it, we should not interfere with a hammer swing nor
with the spring/weight of the whippen. Actually, Richard Brekne has
mentioned this a long time ago to me and I am convinced he is right.
There should be no helper springs at all, I think, unless all the
natural ways to overcome excess weight have been exhausted. I am not
against assist springs but they are tricky.
Every extra lift takes away the directness of feel and touch and also
influences the tonal outcome.
