System Three Varnish

I wouldn't be surprised to see that it works well. I have not used this brand. I have used quite a few "spar" varnishes from other manufacturers. I have a quart of Interlux "Schooner" Traditional Varnish that I will be using on my next soundboard.

Any good varnish will bond to a properly prepared epoxy surface. The best ones will have excellent (actually unbelievable) flow-out characteristics.

You need to read the directions for application carefully and follow them. Surface preparation is paramount. Good varnish should be applied with a high quality natural bristle brush. The thinnest coat is the best coat. Thin coats will flow out and all brush marks will disappear. One coat per day. Sand between coats. Lots of work.

I have used Interlux, Pettit, and Epiphane marine coating products extensively, and can highly recommend any of them.

Hope this helps.

> System Thee (the producer of various epoxy resins including one recommended for sounding board stiffening by Del) produces a spar varnish that is supposedly compatible with their epoxy. Has anyone used this product and can you describe the visual characteristics in terms of appropriateness for soundboard use, i.e., how does it look?
