"Divers searched the bottom of this pond, and found evidence of a piano!" And that evidence was? It would be extremely easy to do an electro-magnetic survey of the pond. Very sensitive hand-held instruments are available that can easily identify a chain-link fence post, a 55-gallon drum, and certainly with great ease, a 350 lb. cast iron plate. Although I must admit that I have never found a piano plate with this method. You could do the pond in a couple hours and be done with it.
