It would be a mistake to lump the Shigeru Kawai in with any other piano of
the Kawai line.

Personally, I don't have a top ten, preferring to let the individual
instruments speak for themselves but if I did the Shigeru Kawai concert
grand would go to the top of the list.

By far the best Steinway D I've ever seen and heard was the Shigeru Kawai
concert grand I encountered at the Kawai N.A. headquarters building in So.
Calif. Construction and detailing were impeccable and the sound was
something most other "modern concert grands" (including the production Model
D) can only dream about. Or have nightmares about. Clean and smooth with a
pianissimo utterly missing from most of today's so-called "pianos."
Wonderful dynamic range and easily powerful enough to satisfy any reasonable
concert hall.

Even so, I'm still waiting to see the modern concert grand I can describe
without having to put the phrase in quotes.
