Probably something to do with bearing is the cause for S'Way Uprights to be difficult to tune. Some of the "noise" comes from the area above the V bar and below the pressure bar.Put your finger on that section and you will hear less whine.I believe when the case is back together and you stand back abit alot of the noises are gone.Another thing that makes them hard to tune is balanceing the tension between the various segments of the string.Especially the area between the the tuning pin and pressure bar.It helps makes the tuning stable eventually, but you have to get it there.I find useing more upward pulls to pitch and as little as possible lowering to pitch works well.String stretching also helps to equalise the tension.Be ready to make some big pitch changes after doing the stretching. I have many S'way uprights that I tune, and I like them OK.They get better with time.Usually settle down pretty nicely in about two or three years. Then they are a real pleasure to tune because they are so stable. It is worth all the initial struggle to get them there.
