Over the years he has received many dog bites while delivering flowers to residential locations. He always wore high top work boots. I always thought it was for ankle support. It wasn't. It was to protect against dog bites. He always said that you can't trust ANY dog as it is only a matter of time before you will get bit. He has even had a cutesy little dog latch on to his pant leg as soon as he entered the yard. Had to drag the dog all the way to the house. The owner thought it was so cute. Once he was delivering flowers to the home of the local MD. The MDs boxer bit him on the hand as he was walking to the house. When the MD answered the door my father said "Doc, your dog just bit me!" The MD just smiled and said, "Well, stop up to the office in a few minutes and I'll clean it up for you." Eventually, one of the neighbors with little kids shot the dog and threw him on the MDs front porch. While dogs are a problem, as you don't know when they are going to bit, dog owners are a bigger problem as you don't know if they are irresponsible or not. Always seems like biting dogs have irresponsible owners. Following in my father's views, I always wear high top cowboy boots when I am out. Deflects all kinds of critter bites and are more fashionable then plain old work boots.
