Brass Rail Duplication

You don't plug the hole for the rail. It becomes a flange hole and the old
rail is your layout board for the rest of them. At least on the piano he
showed it lined up so perfectly I was amazed. Somebody must have converted a
regular type rail to the brass rail and what were doing is removing the
brass rail and it's almost done.
Let me know how you do the indented part of the rail. It was something
simple too....

I already ordered a set of butts with attached wooden flanges - how about
that for faith!

that the center pin for the wooden flange ends up exactly at the same
position as on the brass rail. The maple rail also is beveled perfectly for
the wooden flange base to set on. I can easily see now that really the only
thing you need to do is plug the old screw holes for the brass rail, cut a
strip of wood for the indented part of the flanges and glue it to the maple
rail, and then drill the flange screw holes. You can use the brass rail as
your pattern for spacing the flange screw holes. Seems pretty staight
forward actually. Assuming I'm not too far off course here, I'm sure Bill
will have some handy hints for how to position the brass rail for the
drilling guide and some other details. But heck yeah, this looks like the
way to go! I had heard of doing this, but I guess it just took hearing
someone suggest it to get me moving. THANKS! I'll let you know how it works
out.
