Longterm future of piano business

Hi,

It looks to me as if Pianos cost on average about 10 times as much now per
unit as they did in 1978. I don't think my clients salary's have risen by
the same multiplier.

As Del has mentioned, some companies seem to have succeeded in creating
"disposeable" accoustic pianos. Of course all the "keyboards" are disposeable.

We don't, imho, as a profession do a very good job of educating the public.

One thing is certain and that is that keyboards will become an increasing
slice of the pie. They are rather like computers. They either work, or not.
If they don't work and parts are not available the company gets to sell
another unit. If an accoustic piano doesn't work--then our profession can
often repair it for a fraction of the cost of replacement, and it may well
be better than new--if the basic framework is worth the effort.
