Hammer Mass/Shank effects

A simple experiment will tell you about hammer shank effect: Take an action
with round hammer shanks and replace one shank with "hex" shank, of your
choosing. Put the original hammer on the "hex" shank. Align perfectly as it
was before. Put the action in the piano and listen. My experience is/was
that the "hex" shank has a harder sound. K?
