Stringing Braid and the perception of doing it right

In the D I mentioned earlier, where I unbraided the high tenor, I just rolled 
up the braid next to the plate strut, rather than cutting it away, in case we 
changed our minds. As it turned out, I did put one or two unisons back.

Anyway, two years later the piano was moved out temporarily for repairs to 
the stage. I got a call some time after its return, saying that a couple of 
tenor notes didn't sustain quite as much as they used to...Any guesses where that 
leftover braid was?
