And it might not have even been Mr. So-and-So! I've dealt with a few =
folks who besides being, um, a few sandwiches short of a picnic, have =
tried every tuner in town and get a little mixed up about who the last =
tuner really was. In one case, the lady reported to me what the =
preceding technician said with the added bonus of describing his =
devilish grin and evil squinting eyes. To tell the truth, everything he =
said about her piano was correct. I realized that she was certifiable =
(maybe he didn't realize she was nuts) and handled the situation =
appropriately. Sometimes, too, it's just a personality thing.

I recall fondly one of these conversations with a piano owner some years =
back. After patiently (and deliberately) listening to her go on an on in =
great detail about what a terrible job the previous tuner had done (and =
I had to agree, the tuning did sound pretty bad) I asked her when the =
tuner in question had last tuned her piano. The question did slow her =
down a bit but still she came up with something like, "why, it was just =
last year, I think." I allowed as to how I could understand the =
gentleman in question might no longer be doing his best work -- he had =
been dead for about seven or eight years by then.=20
