Water and a little time also work excellent (for hide glue). Sometimes I will add a bit of alcohol to the water if the water appears to bead up on the felt and not soak in readily (alcohol helps the water wick its way into the felt). Many items I will let soak overnight. Everything just falls apart by morning and wood cleanup is a simple wipe with a paper towel (sometimes a gentle scrape with a dull putty knife).
