How do I check the tension for center pins in a brass rail?

I
Any suggestions?

Invert the hammer/butt assembly. Push the center pin through the bushed
holes, grab the center pin in the middle or on the excess end with a needle
nose pliers tight enough to keep the pin from turning, swing the hammer.
2-3 cycles will do it (a cycle is 1 swing forward and 1 swing back).
