A couple of tests:

With the sustain pedal not engaged, make certain the damper levers 
are not engaged until the hammer distance is half way between at rest 
and the strings.

With the sustain pedal depressed, make certain that the damper spoons 
do not engage the damper levers at the end of the key stroke.
