I say: If you rely on an external device your tuning ear will eventually
>fall into a state of disuetude and suddenly you won't be able to tune
>without a device at all. This is why I only use the CTS-5 to "help" lay the
>bearings in just one 8ve. Then I turn it off and finish the job by ear. I
>have yet to have a call-back on my tunings.

Then by your supposition, won't you lose the ability to 'lay the bearings'
aurally with your use of an ETD?

I think the only difference between ETD and non-ETD users is ego.
Much the same as someone saying, "I don't need a stinking machine,
this sandpaper and block works just fine."

Why use a pneumatic impact hammer to drive tuning pins, a hammer and punch does the job.

Craftsmanship is not solely in the labor itself but the application of acquired skills and tools.
