epoxy tuning hole repair

Looks like a one-piece insert, rather than individual plugs for each pin
hole?  Are the darker holes, around the perimiter, screws to hold it in
place?  How do you match the shape of the cavity to the insert, or the
insert to the cavity?  This looks like something I'd like to know how to do.
