Access. Anyone, anywhere can send messages to a newsgroup (think BIG TIME spam), and anyone can read the messages. See http://groups.google.com, and check out rec.music.makers.piano for an example. Synonyms for newsgroups include Usenet and NNTP. A mailing list is simply a collection of email addresses. Mail sent to the list goes only to those individuals. Membership in the list may be open or restricted. People have to discover the names of mailing lists, while a directory of newsgroups exists. Andy is kind enough to filter out spam and large files, and to provide digests; none of that happens in a newsgroup (unless it's moderated). --Cy Shuster-- Rochester, MN ----- Original Message ----- From: "David Skolnik" <davidskolnik@optonline.net> To: "Pianotech" <pianotech@ptg.org> Sent: Monday, February 16, 2004 9:37 PM Subject: Re: Mailbox Management > Bill- > > Sorry to be such an ignorant toad, but what is the difference between a > mailing list and a newsgroup? > > David Skolnik
