Perhaps another good way to evaluate a knuckle-to-center-pin distance =
match would be to adjust let-off so it did not occur, replace the front =
key pin punchings and felt with a block of wood, and then carefully =
measure hammer rise for a full key depression. The wood under the key at =
the front rail pin will ensure a repeatable key depression amount, and =
if the effective knuckle distance is the same on both the old and new =
shanks, the hammer rise will be exactly the same.
