A number of other people have asked me that privately as well so I thought
I'd reply here.

K&N make air and oil filters as well as intake kits for vehicles of all
kinds including motorcycles and off-road vehicles. The advertised advantage
is that they increase horsepower and acceleration by allowing an engine to
breathe easier and cleaner over the life of the filter.

With standard paper or foam element air filters your power and gas mileage
starts to deteriorate as the filter gets dirty, but the K&N actually
becomes more efficient as it gets dirty, and after 50 thousand miles or so
you just clean and recharge it using an inexpensive kit. They're guaranteed
for 10 years or a million miles and won't affect a vehicle's warranty. Plus
they have the added advantage for the environmentally-minded that
installing one will keep a dozen or more contaminated replacement air
filters out of the landfills.

See http://www.knfilters.com/ for more details.
