accutuner

Hi Carl,
My understanding of the RAM hold on voltage for the SATll is as follows.
Every time you switch the unit on, a capacitor charges up, and this is used
to hold the memory. That is why it is very important to turn it on every
couple of weeks, to recharge this capacitor.
When the capacitor discharges, then the small disk battery takes over.
The main rechargeable battery is just used for day to day operation.
If the capacitor and the disk discharge, then you do not have a hold on
voltage for the program, and the SAT doesn't know what to do. It then has to
be sent back to Inventronics for a reprogramming.
When it goes back for repair, they do all the new modifications, including a
new capacitor and disk battery. (They did for me, I am assuming it is SOP.)
That is the main reason I upgraded to the SATlll, when it came out, as it
has a flash memory, not dependant on a hold on voltage.
About changing the disk battery, as long as the capacitor is charged, you
should be ok.
How long is it since you had your unit serviced? It might be just as well to
send it back to Inventronics, for the most recent mods.
