I’m with Carl. Don’t take the pins out.

Use a hypo oiler and apply about as much as you would apply pin tightener,
i.e., squeeze it for about a half second until the glue looks like it will
puddle. Let it soak in a little and re-apply.

I would give it 10-30 minutes, depending on how loose they were. If that
still won’t hold, then take the pin out and let it run all the way down into
the hole. Reinsert pin right away and bring it up. It probably won’t hold
right away. Try again in 10-30 minutes or so. I’ve seen holding power
increase after a few days, even. Unless there is moisture present, it can
take awhile for the CA glue to fully set. My opinion is the slower the
better. You are swelling wood and setting it. That is what is holding the
pin, not an adhesive bond.

Make sure you pull the action or take appropriate steps to protect things
should any glue run through.

Don't take the pins out, just hold it in tune and apply ca. Hold for just a
few seconds and re do if necessary.

Sent this earlier, but it seems to have disappeared. Sorry if it shows up
again.

Howdy,

Ed Foote, I believe you wrote about taking pins out and then CAing a
pinblock to get the block to increase swelling (if I understand that
correctly).

I'm in a tight spot here at the Big, Dead Hall. The B in residence (which
has been on the don't use list because it is in that kind of shape) is going
to be used on Saturday. Gee, if only I had known *last* week. The pins are
generally loose, with a few "let go of your tuning hammer at watch it fly"
types. Yes, it's a Steinway. Yes, it's in miserable shape and I have no
qualms about doing whatever I need to do to get it hold the tune better than
it does now.

So, I was wondering if I removed those few spinning pins and carefully
applied the CA, would I get more holding power? How long should I wait
before re-inserting the pins?

Thanks gobs. Man, what a wild week.
