Loading

Benny,
"Loading" is a technique wherein you test a strings "location", in regard to
pitch, by flexing the tuning pin both directions with, (and this is the
important part), EQUAL force. It takes practice to achieve this flexing test
with equal force both directions. Generally, if I know the piano is going to
be played hard, I will "load" the strings, slightly, to the sharp side.
Normally, I want the "loading" to be static. In pitch raising, I want the
loading to be, definately, on the Sharp side. In pitch lowering, I want the
"loading" to be on the flat side. I hope this helps.
