How about a conical shaped punching? - Oorebeeks

Since there were so many threads that I could not read all of them
(sorry), but I've been wondering why the tapering the punching felt
does improve the tone. I may be wrong but I wonder if it reduces the
noise when the key hits the felt. Think of the hammer shape. It
produces nice tone when it has a round egg shape. If this is true for
the punching felt, how about a conical shaped punching? NY Steinway
uses conical shaped punchings for the balance rail, so I just thought
it could be possible to make the same kind for the front. What do you
think? (Sorry if it was already discussed.)
