Double German eye (was "Jolly Loop")

Hi Ron

First off let me say how delighted I am to see your posts again on the
list.

Looking at your picture below, I am seeing what looks to be a loop I've
seen on several pianos through out the years. We have at the
University a 30 year old Grotrian that has a double loop German tie, and
and older August Forster that also employs this. This is one of those
things I've always just registered and never really thought about.

I suppose tho that since the loop (being thicker) will force the string
to come off the hitch pins a bit higher then otherwise. Perhaps before
using this on any old piano it might be a good idea remember this when
considering the angle the string needs comming off the back side of the
bridge ? Just musing, or does it end up being basically the same height
due to the winding ? I've personally not really run into the single
loop tightning around the hitch pin problem more then very very rarely
and always wondered whether the double loop was worth the effort.

Cheers
RicB

Anyhow, for those of you who may be interested, I scanned a close-up
of our centralised loop, and the jig which I use for their
manufacture. A loop is shown below.
