Hi folks...
Terry writes in a long post where he for the first time enters into the
frey full footedly !! :)

Unfortunately, this paragraph at least is fullstendig boom fail... as in
the reverse of what is reality. Pianos outside of the Steinway and
Clones genre are plentiful, and all have found their most welcome place
in so very very many situations. Thats what the buying public at large
has said. It is only the concert environment, and by that I mean as in
Carnegie Hall and the likes... Classical music mostly, that the
Dominance of Steinway instruments is evident in any degree as to be such
that the word <<significant>> is a gross understatement.

Only on this list does there seem to be an abject reaction to this fact.
Perhaps understandably so since at least 2 of the major participants
from that camp produce their own instruments styles that portend to
compete directly with this part of the market. Still, the fact remains
that the public has had nigh on 150 years to make its cumulative
judgment amongst the many varied approaches to instrument building in
this particular regard... and there is really nothing all that new on
the table today.

Only here, on this list, and in a few pockets elsewhere is there an
evident resistance to any one type of instrument building philosophy by
an identifiable group of individuals. And it is Steinway specifically
(curiously enough) and not the CC board in general that bears the
greatest brunt of this affront. Which, should tell the real tale of what
this is all about.

Repeatedly, it seems needed to say, that the vast majority of us have no
problem whatsoever with whatever type of construction one wishes to
employ.... quite the opposite. What IS reacted to is the seemingly near
fanatic need to somehow show or prove that this RB & S idea is far
superior to anything that has been come up with before.... which is
quite the opposite point as attempted being made below. Said simply...
it is NOT anything but Steinway that is being snubbed... it is Steinway
that is being snubbed. And it should be obvious to one and all whores
doing the real snubbing.

That said.... I wouldnt have things any other way, nor would I have
Terry any other way then he is... watch this guy folks... he'll be out
building the lot of you before you know it.

Cheers
RicB

"I have read repeatedly on this list how pretty much all of what is being
done with rib crowned soundboard designs and rim modifications, etc.
have all been done before. These have been discussed ad-naseum.
Certainly some new thining is also going on here, but the nuts and bolts
of it are clearly recognised as having been used again and again in the
past. I think what might be novel here, at least considering the last
years or so, is that anything different from what that famous NY
manufacturer does could possibly be worthy of consideration."
