Yes, that sounds like it.  There was a horizontal wooden shank/link on the 
extra set of flanges, connecting to vertical wooden stickers.

I'd love to see your article!  If 50-year-old Acrosonics can be made to 
sound and play better, I'd love to know it!  And as others have pointed out, 
even Lester plastic elbows have generated a lot of tuner income...

I'm really thinking seriously about an impact hammer now.  Almost every 
piano I see is a 50-100 cent pitch raise.  Had two pianos this month that 
hadn't been tuned since *new*: one built in 1984, and one in 1962!  Oh, my 
aching shoulder!  (I may try that brace-and-bit yet!  Or an automotive air 
wrench! :-)
