Bill says to use a 10% alcohol solution in the RPT test technical manual =
and pure methanol in the field because of it's drying time. He also says =
he is just starting to use the Mannino reamers in the shop so maybe he =
has since changed his mind on using alcohol to size the bushing to the =
pin. Dale Erwin told me "alcohol sizing changes the chemical composition =
of the felt." He is not a chemist so pushing him for a more technical =
explanation was useless. It was just a fact he was passing on to me. =
Renner cloth is presized so using alcohol on it would probably screw it =
up.=20
With regular bushing cloth alcohol sizing will crush the felt making it =
denser without removing cloth. On the old uprights the hole is too big =
for the Renner cloth I have tried so I pull a really tight cloth to get =
as much cloth in the hole and size them with an alcohol solution. Some =
reaming and burnishing may still be necessary and if it is I guess you =
know you got enough cloth in the hole.

  Well, I think I just answered my own question. I found a real nice =
rebushing procedure by Bill Spurlock on the RennerUSA web site: =
