David,
=20
I haven't worked on any Shigerus. I was under the impression that the =20
hammers are different than what is used on the RXs.

I=E2=80=99m sure you could use Ronsens, but the Shigeru hammer is a very ni=
ce =20
hammer on those instruments. I don=E2=80=99t know if I would call the Rons=
en Wurzen a =E2=80=9C
mellow=E2=80=9D hammer. It has some firmness to it and requires a little n=
eedling to=20
open it up, at least for me. As with most hammer installation jobs, the co=
st=20
is in the labor. Prices on hammers don=E2=80=99t vary that much. Get som=
e samples=20
and listen to both.=20

I work on many Kawai pianos, most of them 5 years old or less. Many of=20
them are RX series pianos. I like the soft voice they have when new. =20
=20

=20
Though the hammers are heat pressed, they are voiced down quite a bit at th=
e=20
factory. However, after a few years (or less, depending on the player),=20
they become hard and brittle sounding. They can be voiced again and again,=
 but=20
when they need replacement--which will be soon on at least one of them--I w=
as=20
 considering the possibility of the Ronsen AA Wurzen felt hammers. It seem=
s=20
logical to me, based on what I've heard of these hammers and based on the=20
sounds I like to hear coming from RX series grands.
=20

=20
Has anybody tried these or alternative hammers on Kawai grands? =20
=20

=20
Am I way off the mark?
=20

=20
Are the Shigeru hammers cold pressed, and might they not be a good--and=20
probably  expensive--replacement also?
=20

=20
Just  wondering,
=20
