No so in my experience:

Spilled water on a remote  control a year ago, it's still "drying out" in 
a drawer.

Spilled a  cup of coffee on my computer keyboard, had to be replaced.

I was ready to buy a new one, but I figured I'd give it one last try.   I 
stuck the battery back in, and voila!  We have contact!
