I'm just about to install my second set, but the first set that went onto
an S&S O were quite impressive. Many of the tonal problems I'd thought
originated with a mediocre rebuild were almost totally gone, though some of
that was likely the result of new shanks so it regulated better too.

The "B&S" on this O was good enough when the hammers were brand new that I
didn't want to change it. They've been on for six weeks now and I'm due to
go back and check on them and can let you know how well they
"work-hardened" on this one.

On this first set the bass break was almost perfectly smooth compared to
what it was and is on other Os I've tuned. The only needling I did was on
four notes high up in the killler octave and I didn't harden them at all
since the piano is in a small room. I know that the owner is delighted with
the sound the way it is.

The next set is going on an old partially-rebuilt S&S A in a church where I
know more power will be required. Huge fluffy hammers of unknown descent
are hung on verdigrised original parts at present and it doesn't sound very
pretty or play well, though I think it has potential. I'll report back when
they're installed next week if you're interested in how it went.

I do have a question for the Wurzen gurus if they're still reading this
though. I have two "problem" Yamahas that are due for new hammers. Are the
Wurzens suitable for a 15 year old G2 and a 45 year old G7, both in small
rooms? Thanks in advance!
