What type of fishing line for setting downbearing?

  Well I don't find tread very useful either but  bright yellow fly line 
works well for me & it is very visible.

I just  use heavy-duty tread. Sometimes it helps  a bit to angle some light, 
but I've never really had any trouble telling  when it touched the bridge.
