Alan , You get the green banana!<G> Sho' 'nuf, that was it. Checked them thar dampers and found that they had been installed about 1/16" too high on the damper wires! Got out my handy-dandy center pin nippers and cut off the top/left corner, sanded and all was well. While I was sufacing the hammers, in the shop, I noted that there were symetrical "slices" in the underside of the hammers, in the middle section. I went: Hmmm?, and dismissed it as some anomoly from the factory and went on my merry way. Shouldn't have.<G> :-( That action is what I would define as a "compact action", which is engineered very close, so any "oops" on the initial building would make a problem, IMO. Congrats Alan!
